Think festive, feel festive, get festive! YMCA East Surrey’s Santa Run will be ringing all the right bells on Sunday 10th December in Reigate’s Priory Park, so bring your little ones, your friends and your families and join in the fun!
“This is a great event for everyone – no matter how seriously you take your running,” says YMCA Chief Executive, Ian Burks. “We welcome Santas of every ability. Just bring a big smile and help us get the festive season off to a great start.”
Entries cost £12.50 and include a Santa suit, refreshments and medal for every runner who finishes the race. Races will begin at 10:30am with a 3-mile Adult race through the park and on quiet surrounding roads for 16-year-olds and above. This will be followed by the 1-mile ‘Family Run’ at 11:15am, in which parents or grandparents can run with all children over 4 years old to make the day a memorable experience for the whole family.
Funds raised from this event will go towards the YMCA’s Life Change Fund set up to help transform young lives in East Surrey. This year, the charity is aiming to fund a new ‘Y-Bus’ – a mobile youth club on wheels to reach young people in areas where there is little or no youth provision. The Y-Bus will provide YMCA youth workers with a safe space in which to build trusting relationships with the young people while acting as a deterrent to anyone aiming to exploit them.
Surrey Police Sergeant Phil Murgatroyd of the Reigate & Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team says:
“Detached Youth Work is incredibly important in diverting young people away from crime. If Youth Workers can intervene and educate young people at an early stage, this significantly reduces the likelihood of those young people coming to the attention of police later on in life. It is really important that both the YMCA and Police build trust and confidence in our Young People at an early stage in their lives.”
