During the recent summer half-term break in Reigate, YMCA East Surrey opened the door to 15 children with disabilities or complex needs each day on their Yippee playscheme and 10 young people with disabilities each day on the Yip4Youth leisure scheme.
With services operating from the YMCA Sovereign Centre in Slipshatch Road, the children attending the Yippee playscheme enjoyed activities including flowerpot painting and planting, chocolate chip muffin baking, sensory play and messy art involving hands, feet and a lot of paint!
The young people attending Yip4Youth iced biscuits enjoyed a variety of sensory activities, built dens and cooled off with the occasional water fight.
YMCA East Surrey’s Epsom-based disability leisure schemes welcomed 44 children to the Yippee playscheme, with a further 9 attending the Yippee School Holiday ASD Club and 12 attending the Yip4Youth ASD Club – both of which cater to children and young people with autism. A highlight of the half-term activities in Epsom was an entertaining bubble workshop from Fizz Pop Bang Science.
For the upcoming long summer holiday, the YMCA Children’s Services team will be able to run at capacity for the short breaks schemes, offering vital support for families in need of respite.
In addition to the disability play and leisure schemes, 228 school-aged children between 4 and 12 years enjoyed sports, crafts, games and outdoor play at the YMCA Sports and Leisure Centre in Princes Road, Redhill, and 24 football-mad youngsters signed up for the charity’s Football Camp which was held at Earlswood Junior School.
