On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 August, eight young people with disabilities took part in a challenging ride over the South Downs.
The route took in 20 miles on each day and included a night in a hostel on the Saturday. The group were supported by three YMCA staff who helped them train for the ride by organising a number of progressively more difficult cycling routes leading up to this impressive event.
The ride was a huge success and staff commented:
“The ride went really well! I was so impressed with how they all tackled the hills and kept going. Such an achievement for them.”
“The ride was great, really good. Everyone did amazingly well and the young people could definitely do something bigger in the future.”
One parent commented: “When there is cycling on, my son loves to go. The YMCA provides lots of different cycling opportunities but my son has really benefitted from the full day rides.”
