The children and young people have enjoyed the good weather throughout the week and taken part in a variety of activities as always.
Yippee playscheme for children aged 5-11 years with disabilities welcomed 107 attendances from 51 children over four days. They went on a trip to Tilgate Park, where they were fascinated by an exclusive ‘Meet the animals’ session and then had the chance to burn off some energy in the playground. The children have also been on a scavenger hunt and had a go at many different sports and games.
Yip4Youth (for young people aged 12-18) had 58 attendances from 27 young people over the four days. The group went on a cinema trip to Worthing, seeing the newly released ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Road Trip’, followed by lunch and games on the beach. They tried out sensory experiments and all worked together to throw a half term party by making pizzas, burgers, pretzel and brownies.
As National Volunteers Week runs from 1-7 June, it’s also worth mentioning that the Children’s Services team at the Sovereign Centre were assisted this half term by 8 enthusiastic volunteers, many of who helped out multiple times over the four days. YMCA East Surrey is extremely grateful for the ongoing dedication of their volunteers, who help many children, young people and families who are in desperate need of their support.
