Our Yippee and Yip4Youth holiday schemes, based at the YMCA Sovereign Centre in Slipshatch Road, Reigate, had a packed schedule of Easter activities.
We provided specialist one to one care for 40% of the children and young people with disabilities who attended and were ably supported by an enthusiastic team of volunteer playworkers. The holiday schemes took place over 9 days, with 6 hours of Easter themed activities and outings into the community per day.
1,674 hours of Short Breaks were provided for the Yippee children, aged between 5 and 11 years. They made delicious shredded wheat bird nests and hot cross buns, held an Easter egg design competition and took part in a Spring bug hunt. The children enjoyed trampolining Rebound Therapy sessions, a swimming trip, a visit to Bocketts Farm and a Big Yippee Easter Egg hunt, with chocolate eggs very kindly donated by local charity, Stripey Stork.
972 hours of Short Breaks were provided to the Yip4Youth young people, aged 12 to 18 years. They were delighted to take part in a disability cycling session with local charity, Wheels for All, and also visited Bocketts Farm. A busy kitchen turned out cupcakes, cookies and even Spanish omelettes! A swimming session, inclusive sports and eggy science experiments completed the activities.
Children, young people, volunteers and YMCA staff all went home exhausted but happy at the end of each day.
